This Arduino shield is designed to make driving motors simple and clean in robotics or motor‑intensive projects. It uses the TB6612 MOSFET motor‑driver chips instead of older L293D‑style drivers, giving you higher current, lower voltage drop across the motor, and built‑in flyback (kickback) protection—all on a single board that stacks directly on top of an Arduino.

What it can drive

  • DC motors: Up to 4 bidirectional DC motors, each with individual 8‑bit speed control (roughly 0.5% resolution).

  • Stepper motors: Up to 2 unipolar or bipolar stepper motors, supporting single‑coil, double‑coil, interleaved, and microstepping modes.

  • Servos: 2 dedicated 5 V “hobby” servo connections that tie into the Arduino’s high‑resolution timer for jitter‑free servo motion.

Key electrical specs

  • Driver chip: TB6612 MOSFET H‑bridges, with about 1.2 A continuous per channel and up to 3 A peak for ~20 ms.
  • Motor voltage range: Typically 4.5 V to 13.5 V DC for the motors, while the logic side runs at 5 V when stacked on an Arduino.
  • Interface: I²C‑controlled PWM driver built‑in, so only SDA and SCL pins are needed to control all motors and speeds, freeing up other Arduino pins for sensors or extras.

Physical and compatibility features

  • Stackable design: Five address‑select pins let you use up to 32 shields in one system, controlling up to 128 DC motors or 64 steppers.
  • Terminal blocks: Large screw terminals (18–26 AWG) make it easy to connect power and motor wires without soldering directly to the shield.
  • Compatible with: Arduino Uno, Leonardo, Due, Mega R3, ADK‑style boards, and similar 5 V‑logic Arduinos (with some jumper adjustments on older Mega/ADK versions).
